
Red Spark Volleyball: A Mid-Season Standings Update
Red Spark Volleyball is halfway through its regular season, and the standings are starting to take shape. The top four teams in each division are starting to separate themselves from the pack, while the bottom four teams are fighting for a playoff spot.
Eastern Division
The Eastern Division is led by the New York City Storm, who are 10-2 on the season. The Storm have been dominant on both sides of the net, led by middle blocker Sarah O'Brien and outside hitter Jessica Jones.
The Philadelphia Eagles are in second place with a record of 8-4. The Eagles have been led by the play of setter Samantha Smith and outside hitter Emily Carter.
The Boston Breakers are in third place with a record of 7-5. The Breakers have been led by the play of middle blocker Rachel Johnson and outside hitter Kelly Murphy.
The Washington Mystics are in fourth place with a record of 6-6. The Mystics have been led by the play of setter Ashley Evans and outside hitter Morgan Henley.
Western Division
The Western Division is led by the Los Angeles Sparks, who are 11-1 on the season. The Sparks have been dominant on both sides of the net, led by middle blocker Candace Parker and outside hitter Nneka Ogwumike.
The Minnesota Lynx are in second place with a record of 9-3. The Lynx have been led by the play of setter Lindsay Whalen and outside hitter Maya Moore.
The Seattle Storm are in third place with a record of 8-4. The Storm have been led by the play of setter Sue Bird and outside hitter Breanna Stewart.
The Phoenix Mercury are in fourth place with a record of 7-5. The Mercury have been led by the play of setter Diana Taurasi and outside hitter Brittney Griner.
Playoff Picture
The top four teams in each division will make the playoffs. The top two teams in each division will receive a bye to the second round. The third- and fourth-place teams in each division will play a single-elimination game to determine who advances to the second round.
The playoffs will begin on August 25th and will end with the championship game on September 17th.

Mid-Season Awards
The Red Spark Volleyball mid-season awards were announced last week. The winners were:
- Most Valuable Player: Candace Parker, Los Angeles Sparks
- Defensive Player of the Year: Sarah O'Brien, New York City Storm
- Setter of the Year: Samantha Smith, Philadelphia Eagles
- Outside Hitter of the Year: Nneka Ogwumike, Los Angeles Sparks
- Middle Blocker of the Year: Rachel Johnson, Boston Breakers
- Rookie of the Year: Morgan Henley, Washington Mystics
- Coach of the Year: Derek Fisher, New York City Storm
Looking Ahead
The second half of the Red Spark Volleyball regular season promises to be just as exciting as the first half. The top teams in each division will be fighting for playoff positioning, while the bottom teams will be fighting for a chance to make the playoffs.
