The 2012-13 Premier League season has reached its halfway point, and the table is beginning to take shape. Manchester United currently sit at the top of the standings with a three-point lead over Manchester City, followed by Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United have been in impressive form this season, winning 12 of their first 19 games. They have been led by the goals of Robin van Persie, who has scored 16 goals in the league this season. Manchester City have also been in good form, winning 11 of their first 19 games. They have been led by the goals of Sergio Aguero, who has scored 12 goals this season.
Chelsea have been the surprise package of the season so far. They have won 10 of their first 19 games and are currently in third place. They have been led by the goals of Fernando Torres, who has scored eight goals this season. Arsenal have also been in good form, winning nine of their first 19 games. They have been led by the goals of Theo Walcott, who has scored eight goals this season.
Tottenham Hotspur have been the most disappointing team of the season so far. They have only won six of their first 19 games and are currently in fifth place. They have been led by the goals of Gareth Bale, who has scored eight goals this season.
The race for the Premier League title is still very much open. Manchester United are the favorites, but Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal are all still in contention. Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to win the title, but they could still finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.
The relegation battle is also very much open. Reading, Queens Park Rangers, and Wigan Athletic are all currently in the relegation zone. Southampton, Aston Villa, and Fulham are all just outside the relegation zone and could be dragged into the battle if they don't start picking up points soon.
The second half of the season promises to be just as exciting as the first half. With so many teams still in contention for the title and relegation, there is sure to be plenty of drama in the months to come.
