Premier League 2022/23: A Review of the Mid-Table Standings
The Premier League season is now in full swing, with the mid-table battle heating up as teams vie for a spot in Europe or simply to avoid relegation. With less than half of the campaign remaining, let's take a closer look at the teams currently occupying the middle spots in the standings.
Mid-Table Marvels
Brighton & Hove Albion have been the surprise package of the season so far, sitting comfortably in ninth place after 20 games. Under the guidance of manager Roberto De Zerbi, the Seagulls have displayed an attacking brand of football that has seen them score goals for fun. Their impressive form has been spearheaded by Leandro Trossard, who has already netted seven goals in the league.
Another team to impress in the mid-table is Brentford. The Bees, who only gained promotion to the Premier League last season, have shown no signs of struggling in the top flight. They currently sit in 11th place, with their solid defense and organized play proving to be a tough nut to crack for opponents.
Europa League Contenders
Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are two heavyweights who find themselves in the thick of the mid-table battle. Spurs started the season slowly but have picked up form under Antonio Conte, winning their last four league matches. Harry Kane remains the focal point of their attack, while Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski have provided additional firepower.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have endured a disappointing campaign by their lofty standards. Injuries and poor form have plagued the Reds, who now find themselves in ninth place. However, they still possess a wealth of talent, and a resurgence in the second half of the season could see them challenge for a European spot.
Relegation Concerns
At the other end of the mid-table, there are several teams who are looking over their shoulders with concern. Southampton, Bournemouth, and Everton are all currently in the relegation zone and will need to improve their form if they want to avoid the drop.
Southampton have been particularly disappointing this season, with their attacking play lacking any spark. Bournemouth have shown some signs of life under Gary O'Neil but will need to be more consistent to survive. Everton, meanwhile, have struggled under Frank Lampard and are desperate for a change in fortunes.
The Battle for the Middle
With the season approaching its halfway point, the battle for the mid-table in the Premier League is set to intensify. Teams will be desperate to secure a positive result in every match as they look to climb the standings or avoid relegation.
