The Premier League Table 2001: A Mid-Season Analysis
The 2001 Premier League season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory. With just over a third of the games played, there are still several teams in contention for the title, while the relegation battle is also hotting up.
Manchester United currently lead the table with 38 points from 18 games, but they are closely followed by Arsenal and Liverpool, who both have 36 points. Chelsea and Newcastle United are also in the mix, with 34 and 33 points respectively.
At the other end of the table, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, and Bradford City are all in danger of relegation. Ipswich have just 12 points from 18 games, while Leicester and Bradford have 13 and 14 points respectively.
There have been some surprises so far this season. Manchester United were expected to challenge for the title, but they have not been as dominant as many expected. Arsenal, on the other hand, have been in excellent form and are now genuine contenders.
Liverpool have also been impressive, and they will be looking to challenge for their first league title in over a decade. Chelsea and Newcastle have both been inconsistent, but they both have the potential to finish in the top four.
The relegation battle is also wide open. Ipswich Town look doomed, but Leicester and Bradford still have a chance of survival. Several other teams, including Southampton, Fulham, and Blackburn Rovers, are also in danger of being dragged into the relegation fight.
The 2001 Premier League season is sure to be full of twists and turns. With so many teams in contention for the title and the relegation battle still up for grabs, there is plenty of excitement to come.
