English Premier League Standings: Title Race Heats Up
The English Premier League is the most watched football league in the world, with billions of fans tuning in to watch the best players on the planet compete for the title. The 2022/23 season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory, with several teams in contention for the championship.
Manchester City Leads the Way
Reigning champions Manchester City are once again at the top of the standings, having won their last five matches. Erling Haaland has been in sensational form for the Citizens, scoring 15 goals in 12 appearances. Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez have also been key contributors to City's success.
Arsenal Impresses
Arsenal, who finished fifth last season, have surprised many this season with their impressive start. Under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, the Gunners have won nine of their first 12 matches and currently sit second in the table. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Martin Odegaard have been standout performers for Arsenal.
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United Emerge
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have also emerged as title contenders this season. Spurs, led by Antonio Conte, have won six of their last seven matches and are currently third in the table. Harry Kane and Heung-min Son have been in fine form, scoring 10 goals each.
Newcastle United, meanwhile, have made a flying start to the season under new manager Eddie Howe. The Magpies have won seven of their first 12 matches and are currently sixth in the table. Miguel Almirón and Callum Wilson have been key to Newcastle's success.
Liverpool and Chelsea Struggle
Liverpool, the 2021/22 runners-up, have struggled for consistency this season. The Reds have lost three of their last five matches and currently sit eighth in the table. Mohamed Salah has been a disappointment, scoring only four goals in 12 appearances.
Chelsea, who won the Champions League last season, have also been below par this season. The Blues have won only three of their first 12 matches and are currently tenth in the table. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has failed to impress since joining Chelsea from Barcelona.
Remaining Fixtures
There are still 26 matches remaining in the Premier League season, and the title race is far from over. Manchester City and Arsenal appear to be the frontrunners, but Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Liverpool cannot be ruled out.
